There is something so special about photographing a family beneath old oak trees in the warm evening light.
This San Jose family session had the prettiest golden feeling to it. The dry grass, the soft dirt trail, the winding oak branches, and the little wooden birdhouse tucked into the tree made the whole evening feel peaceful and storybook. It was simple, but in the best way — the kind of setting that lets the family and the connection be the most important part.
I loved the way this family came together so naturally. Mom wore the prettiest cream floral dress with dainty blue and yellow flowers, dad was in warm khaki tones with a navy shirt, and their three boys were dressed in soft, simple pieces that photographed so beautifully against the golden field. Everything felt relaxed and timeless.
Some of my favorite images were the ones that felt the most like real family life. The boys hugging each other and smiling in the field. Their youngest tucked close in dad’s arms. Mom holding her baby with her older boys gathered around her. The whole family sitting together on a blanket under the trees, close and connected. There was such a sweetness in the smaller details, too. Mom and dad walking hand in hand through the field. The way the boys leaned into each other. The soft light behind them. The little birdhouse in the oak tree that made the whole location feel even more charming and nostalgic. Can you find it?!
Family sessions do not always need to be complicated to be meaningful. Sometimes the most beautiful photographs come from letting children be themselves, giving everyone space to move, and allowing the evening to unfold naturally. A little laughter, a few quiet moments, warm light, and the people you love most — that is more than enough.
What I love about this session is how much it feels like this exact season of their life. Three little boys, still small enough to be held and gathered close. A mother surrounded by her children. A father holding onto the youngest. Brothers laughing together in the grass. These are the details that pass so quickly, but they are the ones worth remembering.
My hope with family photography is always to create images that feel honest and meaningful. Not overly posed or perfect, but full of the feeling of your family as it is right now. The way your children reach for you. The way they laugh together. The way you all fit together in this small and beautiful chapter.
