There is something especially beautiful about photographing two people in the season just before everything changes.

Before the wedding day arrives. Before the plans become memories. Before they step into the life they have been dreaming about together.

For this Oakdale engagement session, we wandered through an open field as the evening light softened around us. The landscape was simple and beautifully untamed—golden grass underfoot, dried thistles scattered throughout the meadow, and deep green trees framing the quiet countryside.

She wore a long sage-green dress that moved gently through the grass, its muted color blending almost seamlessly into the landscape. The softness of the fabric, her loose blonde hair, and the delicate details of her floral tattoo gave the entire session an effortless, romantic feeling.

But the loveliest part was the way these two settled into one another.

The way he held her from behind while she laughed. The way she reached for his face before leaning in for a kiss. The way they walked hand in hand through the field, sometimes looking at one another and sometimes simply enjoying the stillness of being together.

Nothing needed to be overly posed or perfected. Their connection was already there—in the familiar way they touched, in the laughter that came so easily, and in those quiet pauses when the rest of the world seemed to disappear around them.

We made space for the little details, too.

Her hand resting inside his. The engagement ring catching the last of the evening light. The dried flowers growing along the edge of the field. The gentle movement of her dress as they walked away together.

Later, she changed into a simple white dress while he wore navy, creating a timeless contrast against the warm meadow. The light became richer and more golden, giving the final part of their session the feeling of a late-summer memory—warm, relaxed, and filled with anticipation for everything still ahead.

Engagement photographs are about more than documenting a ring or announcing a wedding date. They preserve the beginning of a new chapter: who you were together before becoming husband and wife, the excitement you carried, and the quiet certainty that brought you to this place.

Years from now, I hope these photographs remind them not only of how this moment felt, but of how it felt to stand together in a sunlit Oakdale field, dreaming about the life they were about to begin.

Planning Your Oakdale Engagement Session

The countryside surrounding Oakdale offers such a beautiful setting for relaxed, romantic engagement photographs. Open fields, mature trees, golden evening light, and natural textures create an atmosphere that feels both elevated and completely unforced.

Choosing softly colored, flowing clothing allows movement to become part of the photographs and complements the warm tones of the landscape. Most importantly, come prepared to slow down, hold one another close, and let the session feel like an evening spent together rather than a formal photoshoot.
