Alice in Wonderland Birthday Party
When you think of Alice in Wonderland, you're immediately transported to a world full of whimsy, eccentric characters, and magical moments. So, it’s no surprise that an Alice in Wonderland-themed birthday party is the perfect choice for any little girl who dreams of a tea party in a garden filled with colorful flowers, mischievous cats, and lots of delightful surprises. My eight year old little girl is obsessed with Alice In Wonderland books and was begging for an Alice in Wonderland Birthday Party. It was the perfect opportunity to combine so many of the things I adore. We dived headfirst into a world of magic and fun, all brought to life with thoughtful details, creative activities, and delicious homemade treats. Here's a glimpse into this enchanting party, where no detail was overlooked and every moment was pure Wonderland magic.
A WONDERLAND ENTRANCE
As guests arrived, they were greeted by a whimsical sign that read "Welcome to Wonderland. It set the tone for what was to come! Music from the Disneyland teapot ride greeted everyone coming through the door and the girls arrived dressed in their most charming Alice-inspired costumes. Some girls wore classic blue dresses with white aprons , whimsical Mad Hatter Outfits, bunny ears, or Cheshire cats, but all donned their finest tea party dresses ready to twirl and party. It felt as if we had all stepped right into the pages of Lewis Carroll’s beloved book.
THE MAD TEA PARTY
Of course, no Alice in Wonderland party would be complete without a Mad Tea Party! The centerpiece of the gathering was a long table, dressed in a groovy blue and white checkered tablecloth with gold bunny ring napkin holders at each seat, making it feel as if the White Rabbit himself might hop in at any moment. Each setting had delicate china cups and saucers, adorned with pastel-colored macarons, small finger sandwiches, and dainty tea cakes. The girls all poured their tea from an eclectic collection of teapots and giggled over the strange assortment of treats that seemed straight out of the book. They loved plopping in sugar cubes or honey to sweeten their tea. The girls especially loved the butterfly shaped watermelon and the special "Drink Me" bottles with a refreshing strawberry lemonade and berries mix. To add to the fun, little details were scattered throughout the table and a string of vibrant paper lanterns hung overhead. The centerpiece was Alice in Wonderland books in a cloche, delicate wire flowers, and my favorite detail of all: a small golden box with tiny "Eat Me" cookies.
Unbirthday Cake
I may have gone a little mad! I dreamed a little too big for this special day, but it was just such a fun theme I had too! I decided to make my first ever fondant cake and it turned out to be more like the leaning tower of Pisa. My first and probably last time making a fondant cake was a three tired beauty made with a marbled chocolate and vanilla cake and chocolate Oreo mouse filling. I ended up having to present it with two layers instead of three because my cake started leaning and bulging! We hurried and snapped a few pictures in all her glory before I dismantled it. We wisely decided to go for a planned failure rather than a real one. It seemed that my bottom cakes weren't dense enough to hold the final and rather heavy top layer. Lesson learned.... turns out there's a reason that you don't find many tiered cakes with mousse ! The second cake I made was a wacky unbirthday cake from the Alice and Wonderland movie. Making the candle from fondant was my favorite part. I twisted together purple and white fondant and then I used yellow for the flame and then dusted it with gold. I used a flower plunger and blue fondant to make the little flowers and added a small white candy pearl. I made a simple banana cake with a thick chocolate ganache and a vanilla buttercream. While this turned out lovely, I'm not a huge fan of ganache or fondant on my cakes. I generally prefer a simple buttercream and coordinating filling to my cakes.
Wanting to spread three cakes across the table, but being short on time, I opted to buy the final small 6-inch cake from our local grocery store for the third cake. I picked up some small royal frosting flamingos from Joann's to honor the Queen of Heart's croquet mallets and then I brushed them with edible gold dust. They were the easiest little detail but one that made the girls giggle and wonder how to play croquet with flamingos and hedgehogs. There were so many possibilities I wanted to create for this party but time is a thief and got the better of me!(Like my reference to the new Alice and Wonderland movies?) I thought it'd be fun to make some Mome Raths or design Mad Hatter hats, but ultimately we chose to make Alice in Wonderland bracelets with dainty golden charms and vintage beads.
A PIÑATA FULL OF SURPRISES
In true Wonderland fashion, the fun didn’t stop with tea. The next big event was the piñata. Hanging from a nearby tree, the pink piñata, shaped like a Tea Pot invited all the girls to take a swing. Laughter filled the air as each girl took turns trying to break open the piñata, sending candy flying in all directions. It was a whimsical and slightly chaotic moment, just like the world Alice found herself in, and the girls loved every second of it. Traditional birthday party games are almost a thing of the past but we loved bringing them back! After the piñata was vanquished, the next activity was a game of Pin the Tail on the Cheshire Cat. That game was a riot! The girls piled on the hats each with their name written on it and we lost any hope of finding a true winner. I ordered the poster from Amazon and then I made a photocopy of the stickers and wrote each of the girls name on the hat. They had so much fun being blind folded and spun around. Surprisingly most of them did a great job!

Grateful Hearts and Goodie Bags
After the tea party was over, and before guests left our Alice in Wonderland birthday party, we sent each girl home with an Alice in Wonderland box full of small teapot notepads, mini pencils, different flavored teabags, macaroon jewelry holders, and honey-sticks. When the party had ended it felt like I had fallen down the rabbit hole! It was a day packed full of adventures, cake fails and magical moments. I'll never forget my little girls look of surprise and wonder when the candle on her cake started turning into a sparkler. I wished I could've paused time when she wrapped her arms around me thanked me again and again for such a special day. It made every second of planning worth it. I'm so grateful for my family and friends that cleaned up dishes, picked up confetti, and helped me while I put out all the finishing touches together. I couldn't do it without you! Thank you for always being there!
